HARTL, PH.D. AS THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER
ABOUT DR. TAMARA HARTL, PH.D.:  Dr. Hartl received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Connecticut and served as a clinical instructor at Stanford University until 2008. Her private practice is located in Saratoga, CA. In her clinical practice, Dr. Hartl specializes in evidence-based treatment for adults with mood and anxiety disorders, stress, sexual dysfunction, as well as compulsive hoarding. She is currently collaborating with Dr. Michael Tompkins of the San Francisco Bay Area Center for Cognitive Therapy on two books about a harm reduction approach for hoarding. The first is a book for family members and loved ones of persons who hoard, entitled Digging Out: Helping Your Loved One Manage Clutter, Hoarding, and Compulsive Acquiring. This book is due out in November of this year. The second book is for clinicians who work with persons who hoard.

Featuring MHA's hoarding and cluttering support group facilitator Marlo Tellschow, Michelle Schulz, Derek Boain and Fred Lipschultz PhD, participants of the MHA-SF hoarding and cluttering support group. This session will be led by mental health consumers with firsthand experience with hoarding and cluttering who will present their perspectives on building a supportive network and will share their insight and practical strategies in their path to recovery. 1B: Understanding and Engaging Reluctant Clients. Featuring Monika Eckfield, RN, MSN, PhD Candidate UCSF/ Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence a leading expert on compulsive hoarding and cluttering, Mark Odom , LCSW, a founding member and current co-chair of the Orange County Task Force on Hoarding, Pamela Swedlow, MD, Director of Behavioral Medicine at the San Francisco Department of Public Health and Jennifer Baity Carlin, LCSW, Co-Occurring Disorders Specialist at the San Francisco Behavioral Health Center (formerly known as the MHRF). This panel discussion will be targeted towards service providers and will provide useful tools for understanding and engaging clients who are reluctant to accept help and work towards recovery. 1C: Fair Housing and Reasonable Accommodations. 1C: Fair Housing and Reasonable Accommodations. Featuring Attorney Tom Droham, graduate of the Boston University of Law and housing attorney at Legal Assistance to the Elderly, Cindy Bircher-Rasmussen, MSW, LCSW, a Supervisor at Adult Protective Services in San Francisco, Spring Walker, Social Worker from the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation, Jak Marquez, attorney from the law firm, Beckman Marquez LLP, and Van Newman Hedwall, General Manager at the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation. This session will target landlords, property managers, and insurance agents who work with those who compulsively hoard and clutter. The panel will discuss reasonable accommodation standards for those who compulsively hoard as well as service coordination toward a comprehensive approach towards this condition. | | 2:30 PM | Break

Featuring Jason Adamek, MSW, LCSW Department of Aging and Adult Services, Anthony Nicco, Program Manager for In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), Kelly Dunn, San Francisco Police Department Officer, Rosemary Bosque, Chief Housing Inspector with the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection, Cindy Bircher-Rasmussen, MSW, LCSW, a Supervisor at Adult Protective Services in San Francisco, Stephanie Marsili, BSW, MA, Client Services manager from the In Home Supportive Services Consortium and Johnson Ojo, PhD, a State of California Registered Environmental Health Specialist with the SF Department of Public Health. This panel discussion will outline resources and community networks widely available to those who compulsively hoard and clutter. The panel will provide a roadmap to navigating the world of resources and recovery. 2B: Collaborative Understanding: Support for Family and Friends. Featuring Dr. Michael Tompkins, PhD, Licensed Psychologist, Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California at Berkeley and founding Partner of the San Francisco Bay Area Center for Cognitive Therapy and Barbara L. Schulz, MD, F.A.C.O.G. from the Medical Group of Women Physicians. This session will target the families and friends of those who compulsively hoard and clutter in an effort to address the difficulties that result from hoarding and cluttering behaviors utilizing positive conversations and harm reduction techniques. 2C: Practical Steps within a Harm-Reduction Context. Featuring Tonya Stoddard, ASW, Senior Program Director at Conard House and harm reduction expert and Mike Anderson, MA, Senior Case Manager at Conard House.
